Today i picked up my new "home made" tank bag.Yes DAVIDE is an intalian student who lives in BA.He found a way to improve his incomes by doing at home with very little tools but knoledge all the stuff he advertise at his page.
The quality is stunning.All is done with the best available materials in BA! I even compared it with my first brand from europe....far away in details!!!!

And it was time again to ride to "La posta" in Azul.The reason was Jorges 51 birthday party.As usual an superb asado was done for all the present.
Vacio,chorizos and asado where on each table.Icecold Stout,bock and rubia Quilmes beer where for the thirsty party.
The ride was nice with a terrible storm in Cañuelas.Apart from this it was a smooth trip.Arriving there i was welcome with Ken´s "Stouts" special.

Today was the official start of the DAKAR in Buenos Aires.The plan was to bring all the participants to the opening podium,to inaugurate each one his race!In a million city like BA an imposible task to keep organized.The last part was surrounded but the beguining of the Avenida 9 de Julio was not.So the widest street on earth was taken by enthusiasts.Not to good.
As the first quad arrived he was overrun by picture hunters.As the rest began to arrive more people came.....
In the mean time 3 Pampa jets flew over us a few times.
Inbetween the riders normal cars and bikers where still using the street.To crowded!!!!Time to run away to easyer places to do my rask.
Planetario,was at the begining also ok.But after two hours.....the same show.
In all a nice and populated day at the races here in BA!

It is time to race again!!!!The 2009 DAKAR starts here in my Buenos Aires.Such un incredible thing i could have never dreamed of.It is real.........
In La Rural convencion center all bikes,cars and trucks have passed the acceptance and put into custody untill the race begins.

Que grande POLLO! 50 AÑOS.
After a long preparation Jorge paid his promise to make a great BBQ for all his friends.Foreigners and locals came to this big event!Aki from Japan flew specialy for this sole ocation.People from Germany,USA,Swizerland,Portugal,Canada among others where there.Lots of locals from BA and Azul too.The meat was so good,porc,cow and vegies.Red wine and beer.You name it it was there....in quantities.The atmosphere was more then friendly,all people where helping,at the grill,in the kitchen and doing every little detail to make this fiesta a day to remember.
Those few days of march are now part of my life.Will never forget them.

Last batch of pictures of february 2008.A very wet season and lots of rain.It helped the region a lot.You could prepare herb tea from the air,so strong was the smel after the rain! Peperina,my favorite.

It was about time to leave BA and get back the level of mental health to a tolerable point!No winter days off so i was about to snap......
Those days in San Javier proved to be the needed ones.
As normal got out on the bike to search for more old forgotten tracks on the mountain! And there are so many.....this time i went into Achiras arriba and beyond that to diferent inhabitated and deserted frontier barracks up in the sierras.They don´t have electricity nor pipe water.They live like a 100 years ago.So much peace over there.....
As usual i visit my good friend ERIK THOMSEN in Carlos Paz.Crossed the paso de las altas cumbres with a few clouds,but beautyfull weather.He has rebuilt his trusty Jawa 350 back together to go to Bolivia this year again.
This year my joungest son Sven came with me on the trail search.I know by his look that he got infected by the biker traveller thing too.

After a long winter break i was working on a new oilcooler.After instaling the new oilgauge on the upper oiltank measurments could be done properly.After being happy and surprisingly horrofied by the 123º C reached on city traffic i knw i had to do something.
So the cooler was selected and purchased(from a 2 CV).After working a few hours on my garage the "thing" was instaled.A crash bar of aluminum was done too.The only thing i still have to do is a mesh screen to protect from stones.
Now after the first rides it is working on the 85ºC barrier! Very happy now.

Changing global weather? Yes , don´t tell.This trip began and ended with lots of rain!But what the h.... bikers life is that way.Is good to have warm coffe with.The ride is quite flat and signed by the BA Pampas up to Achiras,73 km from Rio Cuarto.Then the Sierras Grandes apear in front of you.What a ride every time.We had this year visitors from Scotland and Holland,Andrew and Maia.From BA Ariel and Patricia.We had great moments watching the stars at nigth,eating asados,pizzas and panqueqs(Banana,salami and bacon with onions).We visited Chiche Ferreyra at his Rancho.

One long promised ride was done.Crossing the sierra at El paso de la Cruz.Nice ripio roads all the way up to Carlos Paz.There i visited my friend Erik Thomsen and had a great asado again! Mate is obligated as both are adicted to it!!!!Way back to San Javier was done by the Altas Cumbres,all tar.

The meeting of Horizonsd in Viedma was the perfect test ride for my rebuild engine.With the windy ruta 3 i could take a real average on many consumptions.
The most important one for me being oil.for 1000 km she took only 200cc.I am very happy with it.
The meeting was great and could met again people from last year.We had plenty of time to talk,drink and eat.
In all my bike is again in 100% shape.She can run constant up to 130 km/h with the paniers.But i keep it only up to 100.Whats the point of speeding when your travelling.
Poor Javier,he forgot to look at the oil level of his trusty africa.The result of it came in a terrifing sound of a jammed engine!
One vehicle i found very atractive there is the "BEAST" a 4x4 Landy from the UK armed forces.Greg and Alexis are moving with it all the way to Alaska.
Tom and Christine made some tasty falafel.First time for me!
I had also the first can of "Heinz baked beans" from Andrew and Maia.
Now i know why he was so desperate to get some on hand.Phill was the lucky bringer.He put 18 cans into a spare tire........
Now in february i will be travelling in Cordoba and San Luis again.

A day to remember,a perfect sunday in LA POSTA from Pollo.This place is an obligated pass for bikers and ciclists.From Japan to finland.All pay a visit to Pollo and his wife Monica.
You can feel in the atmosphere all the travellers that passed here and left a mark,in form of a grafity in the wall or an object of their own.
Pollo is upgrading the place for making it more and more comfortable.A new boiler will be installed for run on wood.He is expanding the space at the back for an office and a bigger wash room.
Sheldom seen today such an humble couple.Willing to help anybody for nothing in return!
Pollo and Monica,you are so great people!!!!

Now my bike is ready!A big overhauling was done indeed.
Not only the engine,the bearings from the shoks, a new handle bar(tapered type)extensions and a Tank cover.
I drove it today and wowwww she is 100% there again.

Javier is assembling the engine.Not very speedy but steady.
The new piston and rings are there(0,25 from standard) and the piston rod too.
The head with new valves and retainers too.The cilinder has been burnished.
The cam chain , tensioner and guides are there.Dumper too.
So we will have a buisy week!

So the new driveshaft is there!sprocket and lock too.All Honda Japan.
It looks like the crank is gone too,to much wear(expensive little piece).
Piston and rings will be replaced too.

Oil and grease from decades,hahaha.But he enjoyed cleaning it with steam.

So my trusty bike is in DAKARMOTOS NOW!
First steps where taken and the periferial things dismounted.Tank,chain,skid plate,etc.
The drive shaft and sprocket looked like Beirut after the bombing!!!!!
Completly worn out and imposible to use!

I like to pay a visit to the land that started my traveller spirit.
It is a mixture of weather(semidesertic) and human spirit. The geographie of mountains is the one i like most. Mixed that with RIPIO and good weather and i feel like a child with candys.
Not to speak of good food. And i mean natural grown things. Chickens that eat what a chicken should do! Allmost everything taste so good!
From tee to soup.The water has no chemical adds.
Bread is done by some Comechingon indians.They call it "caserito" and means home made.One of those with good mate and dulce de leche.......is the best way to wake up in the winter mornings.
Our house there has no gas.So we need to cook our stuff with the old iron stoven.
It has a serpentine conected to the water pipes in order to heat the warm water tank.After a few days all your stuff and clothes smell like smoked!!!!!
This time i decided to take the little C-90 up to the sierras in LA POBLACIÓN.A smal town 10 miles from SAN JAVIER.
It is a quiet allmost boring place.You can reach many natural beauties from there.I decided for two.Los Chorros and the Rancho from Chicho Ferreyra.
The first one was ok,nice little spring in the moutain base.But the Rancho was far better!
This family lives like 100 years back in time.No electricity,no water lines,no alarms(hahahah)just them and theyr sheeps.
As i allways do when visiting special people like them i bring a few edible items as a gift for their hospitality.Mostly dryed pasta or Yerba.
The rancho is very nice and clean.Roosters and chickens walk all around.It is protected by a heavy fence of espinillo(thorn bush)and wire.Pumas are regular visitors at nigth.
I will be visiting them again in the summer with my XR.
We had beautyfull days of a warm winter.Cold at nigths but dry and sunny.

So so, slowly but surely my next longer trip is beginning to take form.
I decide to go to Bolivia in september 2007.
As today it will be a solo or two bike trip. as long as four weeks.Maybe a slip into Peru? it depends on time and weather.
But first i need to do some things on my bike.
Take the engine down and replace the worn out parts that apear in the process.
73.000 miles on the 650 cc!
This days of cold are excellent for this task.So Javier we will be drinking a lot of mate and eating a few facturas.Hahahaha.

It must be strong as my XR starter,but how good it works!She took me every place i wanted to go with.Our old C-90 "Econo-Power" is 14 years old and still running fine.
I did many tripps to the Sierras , crossing small brooks and climbing old tracks.
Got fresh Peperina at 2370 meters high placed Rancho Ferreyra.
Had a great time at my beloved San Javier.Even my youngest son Sven had his first ripio rides with me,so he askes all the time for more!!!!

Its DAKAR time,but for sure not "the" racing.
One of those days i encounter a few RTW bikes,standing outside a bike shop.
A few days later having spark problems on my bike i decided to go there.....to DAKARMOTOS.
It was solved quick and since then i am a regular visiter customer and MATE drinker there.
Sandra and Javier run this shop that is specialized in atending the real RTW biker .From little to a moderate better prepared shop.Honesty is there brand!
Foreigners,locals with familys enjoy there hospitality.

S0 soon the bike was tested in ripio,i decided to adapt my old TESCH panniers to my new bike.So a new frame was build.It took me two weeks of cutting,welding and bending......but done!
Now i can choose the way of travelling.Soft or hard.

Ohh what a shock! Crazy way of driving in argentina!!!!
After switching my brain to the "local" way of driving anything my next search began again.What kind of bike:
Enduro.... absolutly but......heavy monster or bicicle feeling?
My G/S was very manuvrable but heavy.Excellent for european roads.
So no africa twin or super tenere was considered.
TT 600 or XR 650.After looking around in Buenos Aires the decision was taken.
As allmost no Yamaha dealers where found but dozens of Honda..........
Using for 90 days a C-90 gave me the idea of a powerfull but ligth bike.
So i went to the shop and payd cash my new XR 650L.94 build.
Uauuu what a riding feeling.Its like trying do calm down a bronco horse!
As we began a new chapter in family sense Ilona was having our first son.
Our last trip in many years together was done.Uruguay.
Soon i realized that the 10 liters tank is useless here!So i ordered the 40 liters version in Acerbis(italy).The form of it is like the PD version of the rally machines.Perfect fit and better ventilated then the original.
Trips in Cordoba,San Luis and catamarca where done.80% of it of course RIPIO.
What a feeling,my inner child was conected again!
The bike is my matching partner.
